Across the world, a local LANGUAGE is completely lost every after 2 weeks (UNESCO, 2024). This means that people, their heritage, and everything that was identified with such a language is lost forever. As globalization spreads, this could get worse as young generations get distracted and distanced from their heritage. Bafumbira Beza is a culture-focused initiative to preserve and restore Bafumbira culture while dynamically applying it for real and tangible socioeconomic development.

Two Problems – 1 Big Solution

I. According to UNESCO, a local language is lost every two weeks! When a language is lost, a whole culture is gone, and the people who belonged to it are lost forever! Bafumbira (who are 949k+ in Uganda and close to 2 million across the world) are constantly getting distant from their culture, and their young generations may easily get lost into the global mixture of cultures. We are on the mission to explore, preserve, & re-imagine our culture.

II. Bafumbira are sometimes confused with Banyarwanda, which is mostly intentional, for Bafumbira’s Rwandan roots and how they fully became Ugandans following the re-design of borders in 1910 is very clear. In the long run, this can lead to political discrimination, denial of some rights and privileges that all other Ugandans enjoy. Bafumbira Beza plans to re-affirm Bafumbira as a distinct indigenous and native tribe and culture within the mixture of all Uganda tribes.
